Arbitration Counsel, Delhi | Sections 9, 11, 34 & 37

I appear in court-side arbitration proceedings before the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court, and as counsel in domestic and international commercial arbitrations. Law firms and advocates brief me for individual petitions and hearings; clients instruct me directly for the arbitration itself.

Court-side arbitration work

Section 9 — interim measures before or during the arbitration: injunctions, security for the amount in dispute, preservation of assets and evidence.
Section 11 — petitions for appointment of an arbitrator before the Delhi High Court and, for international commercial arbitrations, the Supreme Court, including the threshold questions of the existence and validity of the arbitration agreement and limitation.
Section 34 and Section 37 — challenges to awards, and appeals from orders under Sections 9, 16 and 34, before the Delhi High Court on the original and appellate side.
Sections 27, 29A and 36 — court assistance in taking evidence, extension of the arbitral tribunal’s mandate, and enforcement of awards.

Arbitral proceedings

I act as counsel before sole arbitrators and tribunals in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations, seated in India and abroad. The work runs from the notice of arbitration and the statement of claim or defence through evidence, cross-examination, written submissions and the hearing. I also settle pleadings and opinions on arbitrability, seat and jurisdiction for counsel filing elsewhere.

Representing the Claimant in international commercial arbitration proceedings against a NASDAQ-listed entity.
Represented an Indian citizen in three petitions under Section 11 before the Supreme Court, arising out of an international commercial arbitration against a NASDAQ-listed entity.
Represented parties in a petition under Section 11 before the High Court of Delhi.
