How do I start?
Email a short description of the problem and any papers you have, or call. The first conversation is to understand the matter and tell you whether it is something I can take on. If it is not, I will say so and, where I can, point you to someone who can.
What should I bring to the first meeting?
The contract or document at the centre of the dispute, every notice, letter and email exchanged about it, any court or tribunal papers already served on you, and a one-page timeline in your own words. Originals are not needed at this stage; clear copies are.
How are fees charged?
Fees are fixed in advance and confirmed in writing: a fee for drafting and filing, and a fee for each hearing. Court fees, filing charges, certified copies and travel outside Delhi are separate and billed at cost. I do not charge a percentage of the amount recovered.
Will you appear yourself?
Yes. Where a matter calls for a senior advocate, I will tell you, explain why, and brief the senior myself. The decision and the senior’s fee are yours to approve first.
How will I know what is happening?
You receive a message after every hearing with what happened, what the court said, and the next date. Copies of orders are sent oncethey are uploaded. You can call or write at any time between hearings.
How long will it take?
Nobody can promise a timeline in an Indian court, and I will not. What I can tell you at the outset is the sequence of steps, the points at which the matter can end early, and where delay usually comes from.
My matter is outside Delhi.
I appear in the Supreme Court and in Delhi regularly, and in Chennai and other cities when a matter warrants it. For routine hearings elsewhere I work with local counsel and remain responsible for the strategy and the drafting.
Is what I tell you confidential?
Yes. Communications between a client and an advocate are privileged, and I run a conflict check before taking any matter on.
